As a member of Mariachi Orgullo, participants will be given the opportunity to be a part of a college level mariachi with the benefit of scholarship through the PRIDE of New Mexico marching band. Scholarship will include: $500 in book store funds and free on campus student parking.
Mariachi Orgullo will be comprised of 12 members: 6 Violins, 3 Trumpets, 1 Guitarron, 1 Vihuela, and 1 Guitar. This group will be a great performance opportunity as we will be performing at all home games and local marching band events such as TOB and BOA. Just like band members we will have three weekly rehearsals allotted by signing up for the class through NMSU. These rehearsals will be used for preparing musical selections that will be used in traveling performances, Game stands, a folklorico and mariachi collaboration and our own half time feature.
This group will require commitment to the semester schedule of events to obtain scholarship award, failure to appear at required rehearsals and performances will result in consequences set forth by the PRIDE of New Mexico and NMSU.
Audition Process
Members interested must send an audition video playing (and singing if able) the following:
• La Negra (along with a recording of Mariachi Vargas)
o (Singers will get priority)
o Violins and trumpets may audition on multiple parts.
• Aggie fight song A and Bb (Armonia + Guitarron use capo to play in Bb)
