Ballet Folklorico Kids Camp

Friday, September 5th & Saturday September 6th 

Want to learn Ballet Folklorico? Want to be a member of the NMSU Ballet Folklorico team for a day? Join us for our first annual kids camp September 5th and 6th. Participants will learn folklorico basics, choreography, including NMSU specific choreography to La Negra. Participants will then perform alongside Ballet Folklorico at the NMSU Hispanic Heritage Game on September 6th.

Participants will be able to perform in the stands as well as during our halftime performance honoring and exhibiting our Hispanic Heritage in Las Cruces.

🗓️When: Friday, September 5th & Saturday, September 6th (times are outlined below)
💃🏻Who: Kids ages 6-12 years old by September 1st; all genders welcome! 
📍Where: Rentfrow Hall, Pan American Center, & Aggie Memorial Stadium 
💲Cost: $50 per participant – includes a t-shirt to wear for football game performance 

Members of the Ballet Folklorico team will lead all classes and performances alongside members of Mariachi Orgullo.

What to wear/bring for Friday:

  • Regular running/tennis shoes
  • Comfy clothes that the participants can dance in
  • Skirts will be provided, but participants that have one may bring it. Please ensure your child's name is in their skirt.
  • Water bottle with name on it. Locations to refill water bottles will be available
  • Please leave snacks at home unless medically needed. A snack of fruit snacks will be provided. 

Game Day Tickets

We are currently working with NMSU Athletics to obtain discounted tickets for parents/guardians of our participants.

What to wear/bring for Saturday:

What to wear for the game:

  • Kids Camp Shirt
  • Girls: shorts that they can put their skirt on over (preferably black or dark color); Boys: Black shorts or pants
  • Tennis/Running Shoes (comfy shoes!)
  • Hair should be pulled back out of face and in a low bun with a center part. Please use gel and hairspray. Bow for hair will be provided.
  • Please ensure participants have on sunscreen!
  • Make up can be worn; red lips are preferred.
  • If participant is wearing their own skirt, please bring it with their name in it. 

Participants should bring a water bottle with their name on it. A snack of fruit snacks and apple will be provided. Locations to refill water bottles will be available.

Please note that all locations have been removed at this time for our participant's safety. We will email the provided via registration a full schedule with locations identified.

Welcome & Performance by Ballet Folklorico y Mariachi Orgullo

Participants will then split into groups by their age group. Skirts will also be passed out. 

4:30pm-5:45pm Foundations and Choreography 
5:45pm  Show & Tell
6:00pm 

Dismissal 

Students will be required to be signed out by their adult who is picking them up. 

Saturday, September 6th:

Power Hour Performance with the Pride of New Mexico 

This is a free performance - no ticket needed

Participants will perform with the Pride of New MExico as well as watch other groups perform. 

6:30pm Walk to Aggie Memorial Stadium - participants will travel with the Pride of New Mexico 
7:00pm

Kick Off & Game Time

Participants can perform in the stands with the Ballet Folklorico Team for the 1st and 2nd quarter. Any participants who do not wish to participate will be given a time that they must be with the group in order to head to the field for their performance

8:00pm (approx)

Halftime Performance with the Pride of New Mexico 

Parents will receive details closer to the performance on where participants will be on the field. 

Immediately after Halftime

Dismissal

Participants will receive a snack and can be picked up from the stands AFTER the participants have re-entered the stands. NO DISMISSAL will occur from the field.
